US National Team Coach Bob Bradley released the 30-man roster that will attend traning camp for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Forward Charlie Davies' name was left often the list. Davies made a remarkable comeback from an automobile accident that almost claimed his life last fall but Bradley felt Davies wouldn't be fit in time for the tournament.
"Charlie has shown so much heart in his work to get back from his injuries," Bradley said. "We have monitored all of his workouts, we've had people there, we've observed him. He remained part of the consideration right up until yesterday. We also had information from his club that he hadn't been given full medical clearance. Therefore, he was not given a full release to join the camp. So when we put that together with everything, we just felt that right now, it's in his best interests to continue his rehab so he can get back to the level that he was playing last year before the accident."
Los Angeles Galaxy striker Edson Buddle could prove to be a legitimate replacement for Davies. Buddle has scored 9 goals in just 8 games this season.
Defender Oguchi Onyewu was also included on the squad, despite being out much of the season for AC Milan with a torn patella.
The final 23-man roster must be submitted to FIFA by June 1st.
